Double Mechanical Seal denotes a sealing system for pumping equipment and other rotating equipment that prevents leakage of fluids between the rotating shaft and the fixed pump housing. While single mechanical seals utilize but one seal on one side or another of the casing, double seals feature two sets of sealing faces: one on the product side (the inner seal) and another on the atmosphere side (the outer seal). The seals use a barrier or buffer fluid circulated between them.
